Candidates forum draws crowd at Mohave High School

J.D. Hayworth among panel at Mohave Tea Party event

BULLHEAD CITY — Approximately 100 people came out Sunday night for a candidates forum in the Mohave High School auditorium, sponsored by the Mohave County Tea Party. Candidates appeared in the following order, appealing for support on Aug. 24, primary day:

District 3 Arizona House candidate Ray Cullison advocated creation of a state bank, and “getting back to our founding principles, strengthening the border and deporting illegal aliens.”

District 3 Arizona House Rep. Doris Goodale said conservative house members did their best to prevent the state from taking money away from local governments. Goodale said she’s kept her campaign promises and pledged to “be right beside you, fighting.”

District 3 Arizona House Rep. Nancy McLain said she’s an advocate of “taking back powers that belong to the states. McLain sponsored a bill, signed into law, that stipulates any firearm manufactured in Arizona, used in Arizona, is not subject to any federal regulations.

U.S. House District 2 candidate Charles Black advocated eliminating the federal income tax and the Federal Reserve. “If it’s unconstitutional, it’s not going to happen” on his watch, Black promised.

District 2 U.S. House Rep. Trent Franks said the income tax should “be abolished entirely,” and replaced with a national sales tax. He said he’s voted to audit the Federal Reserve “and give powers back to Congress.”

U.S. Senate candidate Jim Deakin said, “The first question we should always ask, ‘Is it constitutional?’” Deakin, a Navy veteran, recommends closing military bases overseas. He said “taxes in general are legalized plunder.”

J.D. Hayworth advocated term limits for federal legislators and the judiciary. “It is my intention to serve two consecutive terms,” he said. Hayworth voted for tax breaks twice, while his opponent, Sen. John McCain opposed them, he said. “Thank him (McCain) for his service and welcome him home,” Hayworth recommended.
